Summary:
Develop network designs for line-of-sight (LOS) and SATCOM RF communication systems. Primary responsibilities will include development of Layer3/Layer4 algorithms and protocols to satisfy network requirements. The position also includes the design of Layer2/Layer3 cross-layer functionality to optimize network performance under dynamically changing link conditions. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority. Responsibilities:
Provides technical direction to systems engineering programs, team members and managers. Outlines and communicates the most appropriate technical approach for business development activities. Determines the technical direction and strategy for solving complex, significant or major issues. Identifies, investigates and resolves technical issues. Plans and evaluates architectural design, reviews system performance, and identifies technical risks and associated ways to mitigate those risks. Communicates technical advancements through briefings and technical papers to co-workers, management staff, customers, and technical community, as appropriate. Maintains state-of-the-art awareness in areas of technical expertise such as changes, advancements and improvements. Applies expertise to all areas of systems engineering. Analyzes system design problems and performs design studies. Develops algorithms and plans, conducts and directs research and development. Develops and applies advanced systems methods, theories and research techniques. Directs, coordinates and contributes to compilation and writing of proposal documents. Prepares design proposals to reflect cost, time and alternative solutions. Provides functional or resource planning guidance to program, engineering and management staff. Interfaces with team members, management staff, customers, subcontractors and vendors. Solves complex and difficult engineering problems. Coordinates engineering activities between disciplines. Identifies systems engineering process improvements and enforces the execution of them across the organization. Maintains knowledge of and follows applicable policies and procedures governing work assignments. Participates in or may lead a team effort to solve engineering problems or develop improved engineering processes. Minimum Job Requirements:
Design, document and integrate Layer3/Layer4 networking algorithms and protocols for mobile ad-hoc communication networks Design, document and integrate cross-layer (Layer2/Layer3) interfaces and protocols for optimizing network performance under dynamically changing link conditions Design, document and integrate algorithms and protocols to handle IPv4/IPv6 unicast, multicast and broadcast traffic Design, document and integrate network management algorithms and protocols Design, document and integrate inter-node message communication protocols and message definitions for centralized or distributed network architectures including mesh, star and hub-spoke Design, document and integrate network management algorithms and protocols Design, document and integrate quality-of-service (QoS) algorithms and protocols to satisfy network performance criteria Design, document and integrate priority-based queuing algorithms and protocols to satisfy traffic latency and throughput requirements in congested environments Design, document and integrate radio/router flow control mechanisms Support modeling and simulation of network architectures and designs to assess system performance Support program design review and customer demonstrations Collaborate with project development teams for development, integration and testing Familiarity with network routing and devices, (e.g., OSPF, OSLR, EIGRP, BGP and Cisco, Juniper, Quagga) Familiarity with network emulation/simulation tools and hardware in the loop (e.g., EMANE, QualNet /Exata) is desired Familiarity with Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) (e.g. Cameo) is desired Work under limited supervision and direction Minimum Job Requirements:
Four-year college degree in computer science, computer engineering or other related technical discipline including coursework in networking, plus 8 to 10 years of related experience, or a Master of Science degree. Effective written and oral communication skills required. Knowledge of customer needs and competing products desirable. Able to analyze and solve complex network engineering problems. Able to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadline and budget guidelines. Limited travel may be required. US Citizenship is required, with the ability to obtain a security clearance. Active Security clearance desired.
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
System & Network Administration, Systems Architecture & EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
