Under supervision, the Laboratory Research Associate will assist with multiple research projects that examine mouse models of psychiatric disorders within the Department of Psychiatry.
Under supervision, the researcher will ensure that the lab is in good running order, including handling lab safety, regulation issues, and administrative duties.
The Laboratory Research Associate will assist and perform a limited variety of highly specialized wet lab laboratory procedures under the direction from the PI.
Procedures include library preparation for next-generation sequencing, organization and storage of DNA/RNA samples and corresponding data sets, DNA cloning, mouse genotyping, protein and gene expression studies, implementation and maintenance of primary cultures.
Independently, the Laboratory Research Associate will be responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate records and communicating regularly with the supervisor regarding experiments.
Assist with other tasks as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Theoretical knowledge of molecular biology techniques or related field or equivalent knowledge and experience to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Demonstrated experience with sterile techniques for tissue culture and cloning.
Ability to work independently and as part of a large, diverse group.
Working knowledge of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) procedures for laboratory safety.
Experience to properly handle small animals.
Ability to take initiative and responsibility for assigned functions and carry tasks through to completion.
Efficient organizational skills necessary to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Working knowledge of mouse breeding colony procedures.
Ability to use personal computers and a wide variety of software packages for word-processing, spreadsheets, database processing, presentations Demonstrated experience to assist with standard experiments involving nucleic acids (e.
g.
DNA and RNA extractions, cloning, PCR, RT-PCR).
Demonstrated training in the specialized area of library prep samples for sequencing experiments.
Demonstrated training and experience in sectioning brain tissues and immunohistochemistry procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated experience performing routine genotyping, PCR, agarose gel and quantitative PCR.
Experience in cell culture and western blot.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
Ability to work various hours and flexible work schedule as needed to complete experiments/projects.
Must be comfortable working with animals.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range:
$53,766 - $64,143 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent:
