This perspective created a data and research deficit that has had a lasting impact on the lifelong health of everyone on earth.

Key HMI pillars are the Mother-Milk-Infant Center of Research Excellence (MOMI CORE), Mommys Milk Human Milk Research Biorepository, the UC San Diego MPRINT Center of Excellence in Therapeutics, the UC Health Milk Bank, and the Supporting Premature Infant Nutrition (SPIN) Program and Premature Infant Nutrition Clinic (PINC).
To accomplish HMIs mission, vision, and goals, we need outstanding and creative leadership and an organizational structure that favors innovative thinking, collaboration, and open communication between the pillars and silos at our large organization.
Under general direction the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall planning, function, and long-term support of the Human Milk Institute (HMI).
Key responsibilities involve interacting with UC San Diego leadership, HMI leadership, advancement, strategy teams and others to create a sustainable institute model.
Securing philanthropic, foundation, and public and private grant support will be key to the success of the HMI and will be the overarching early work for this position.
As the institute develops, work with HMI faculty and engaging them in collaborative projects will be a key to sustainability.
The Executive Director provides oversight of HMI staff and will report directly to the HMI Director, Dr.
Lars Bode.
The incumbent takes a leadership role in independently managing and developing a large, complex academic or research program of high visibility.
Develops vision and establishes agenda to achieve research objectives.
Oversees all elements of program administration.
Collaborates across multiple research groups.
Provides leadership in identifying outreach services.
With faculty formulates program strategies and goals, directs long-term planning, and develops policies and procedures.
Defines and implements publications program in support of the overall program.
Is considered a subject matter expert of the organization and is recognized as an expert externally in the field.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Terminal degree in a related field preferred (PhD, MD, MBA etc.
) and seven or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
Academic background and recognized expertise in selected area of research.
Demonstrated expertise with program building and strategy development within a leading academic institution, utilizing administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
Expert communicator including verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise developing, maintaining, and expanding collaborations between academia, industrial and/or governmental agencies.
Leadership experience, ideally in academic and/or government agencies.
Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse group of faculty, staff and students.
Expert fundraising experience and financial portfolio management.
Expert negotiation skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and experience in human milk and lactation research, clinical practice, or education.
Experience with event management.
Experience with community outreach and community building.
SPECIAL CONDITIONSEmployment is subject to a criminal background check.
Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range:
$87,000 - $202,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent:
$41.
67 - $97.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
