Associate Scientist, Translational Science - Autoimmune Disease

Fate Therapeutics is seeking a motivated individual skilled in immunology and/or cell biology to join our Clinical Translation team in support of the company's clinical trials utilizing off-the-shelf, iPSC derived immunotherapies. The primary functions of this role include testing, analysis and QC of biomarker assays. The successful candidate will have experience in data generation and analysis of Flow cytometry-based assays and other complex assays for biomarker testing. This is a full-time position located at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, California.
Responsibilities
  • Processes patient specimens for Fate's clinical trials to perform biomarker testing using multi-parameter flow cytometry and other cellular immunology assays.
  • Analyzes and QC assay data from routine biomarker testing.
  • Serves as assay lead and contributes to assay transfer and training.
  • Contributes to data preparation and presentation.
  • May train and mentor junior Research Associates of the Translational Science team on assay workflows and processes.
  • Review and analyze data for presentations to cross-functional working groups and publications.
  • Assist in organizing and tracking patient data from multiple modalities across the clinical trials.
  • Provide support in developing and updating technical SOPs for routine sample processing and testing.
  • Collaborate with other scientists to develop and validate biomarker assays for clinical testing.
  • Work within Lab systems and LIMS for sample accessioning, processing, testing and storage.
  • Focuses on quality and timely completion of patient testing and adhering to laboratory quality control standards and ensures compliance with the required regulations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a biological science field or equivalent with 5
    years of relevant laboratory experience in a clinical or biopharmaceutical setting.
  • Expertise in multicolor flow cytometry is a must; experience with Beckman Coulter conventional flow cytometers, Cytek spectral flow cytometers, FlowJo or OMIQ is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with immunoassays, including but not limited to ELISAs and chemiluminescence immunoassays; Experience with MSD desired.
  • Strong data analysis experience
  • Working knowledge of cellular immunotherapy and strong scientific background in autoimmune disease biology or immunology
  • Experience working with human blood and blood products using sterile technique.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute projects and deliverables independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Working conditions & physical requirements
  • Subject to extended periods of sitting and standing, vision to monitor, and moderate noise levels.
  • Will require working with cells and cell lines of human and/or animal origin.
  • Will require working with hazardous materials.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
  • 100% onsite work at headquarters in San Diego, CA.

Compensation
  • The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including level, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and location
  • Fate offers a competitive employment package that includes an annual bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package
  • The anticipated salary range for this role is $100,000 - $115,000.
