You will be supporting the lead optimization of RNA candidates from Discovery, with a focus on formulation activities.
In this position you will closely work with Discovery teams in La Jolla (US), and with Development teams in Leiden, the Netherlands.
You will be responsible for the design and execution of experiments, preparation of (nanocarrier) formulations for RNA candidates, analysis of data and reporting the results in written and oral form.
You will participate in project teams and other forums where RNA formulation expertise is required.
You will be part of the RNA Nanocarrier team in the Drug Product Development (DPD) department in Leiden (the Netherlands), who specialize in development of RNA based products with a team of formulation and process SME's.
To ensure seamless support in lead optimization of RNA candidates you will be based in La Jolla (US).
Key
Responsibilities:
- Translation of RNA formulation requirements from Discovery team(s) into actions- Setup of experimental designs (including DoE) and execution to reach the formulation requirements.
- Quality checks on prepared formulations- Accountable for accompanying documentation such as Study Plans and Study Reports.
- Adheres to timelines for performing experiments, and for providing RNA (nanocarrier) formulations- Discusses experiments and shares knowledge with the RNA Nanocarrier team in Leiden- Participates in team meetings with the Leiden team and department (virtually), and ensures close collaboration with Discovery team(s) in La Jolla (US).
- Pro-active intellectual participation in meetings, fully engaged- Ensures the availability of materials and equipment to perform experiments and justifies the purchase of new materials and equipmentKey Performance Indicators- Delivers RNA formulation deliverables with high quality, within budget and timelines- Takes quick action through rapid learning cycles driven by scientific curiosity- Is skilled in pro-active identification of issues, problem-solving, and timely implementation of solutionsIs a strong communicator and closely collaborates with colleagues from different (international) teamsQualifications- PhD degree with at least 2-3 years of post-doctoral and/or relevant industry experience in areas like (medical) biology, pharmaceutical sciences or (bio)chemistry; OR a Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of experience is required.
- Hands-on experience with RNA products is required.
- Knowledge of DoE is required.
- Familiarity with different mixing systems, and analysis methods for RNA (nanocarrier) products is highly preferred.
- Proactive, flexible, a problem solver, and enjoys working with different teams is required.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills are key for this position.
- This role is based on-site in La Jolla, CA.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 to $195,500.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs.
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.
The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year.
Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

Vacation up to 120 hours per calendar year.

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays up to 13 days per calendar year.
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
