Medical Support Assistant

Scheduling, cancelling or rescheduling appointments in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines for external requests, consults, and return to clinic orders (RTC's) - Interpreting and verifying provider orders as appropriate - Monitoring appointments in areas of responsibility to ensure smooth patient flow - Interacting with internal and external customers to achieve desired outcomes - Verifying and updating demographics - Performing appropriate admissions and discharge procedures - Respond appropriately and assure that all messages are communicated in a timely manner - Verifies providers orders and notifies nursing staff of STAT and emergent orders - Accurately maintains and reviews patient's medical record according to set procedures; - Coordinates the release of information; - Arranges and coordinates inpatient appointments for timeliness and to avoid conflicts in patient treatment; - Retrieve and scan existing documents into an Electronic Health Record system - Updates each patients' Whiteboard in each room; - Ensures that the electronic bed board is accurate and updated; - Assists with the orientation/on the job training of new staff Work Schedule:

United States Citizenship:

Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position or one year above high school or equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Experience:
GS-5 MSA (Full Performance Level) Experience or Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level OR 4 years of education above high school. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below:
1. Ability to operate computerized programs and systems in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive medical and patient identifying information (PII) into or from electronic health records, scheduling systems, and/or reports. 2. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology specific to understand medical diagnosis and procedures sufficient to communicate clinical staff instructions to patients. 3. Ability to schedule medical appointments in a clinical setting. 4. Ability to work independently in the accomplishment of a wide variety of duties performing patient support work . 5. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, electronically, and/or by telephone , with internal and external customers . 6. Skill in customer service with the ability to identify customer concerns, and refer to the appropriate staff, as necessary, to ensure a satisfactory resolution. References:

The work of the positions is primarily sedentary; however, some walking, standing, bending stooping and carrying of small items such as files may be required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
