Interdisciplinary Biologist/Ecologist/Physical Scientist

The major duties of the Interdisciplinary Biologist/Ecologist/Physical Scientist position include, but are not limited to the following -Review and analyze existing internal and external inventory data to a) identify current status and gaps in knowledge about the location, condition, or management relevance of species within and near NPS units, and b) develop automated reporting tools about the current state of knowledge about species, assemblages, or communities; -Review existing management plans, condition assessments, foundation documents, and other documented species inventory needs; and in consultation with park, network, region, and national program staff, design and manage the process for prioritizing new species inventory studies; -Design and implement park inventory studies to fill critical inventory needs in order to support science-based resource management and planning activities; -Work with park resource management (and other) staff to facilitate use of inventory science in park management, planning, and operations. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/22/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements for one of the following series by close of the announcement:
For the General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences 0401 Series:
A.Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. Combination of education and
Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the Ecology 0408 Series:
Degree:
biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. For the General Physical Science 1301 Series:
A. Degree:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR- B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. - AND - Minimum
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes the following:
(1) Experience in the analysis and interpretation of inventory or monitoring data for the purposes of informing resource management and protection. (2) Experience in the use of R, python, or other scientific analysis software to evaluate and report the status and trends of natural resource inventory or monitoring data. (3) Experience in leading or overseeing a short or long-term project or program. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
